IBM hopes to simulate human brain in nine years.
IBM’s Blue Brain Project has spent the last six years aiming to replicate the function of a human brain using supercomputers. At the last milestone two years ago, the group simulated the brain of a cat.
Now a new research paper is claiming the “dawn of a new era in the scale of cortical simulations”, by announcing that 4.5% of a working human brain has been replicated using 147,456 processors
The current schedule is set to have the simulated human brain 100% complete by 2019, using 880,000 processors.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, NERDS!

- Game Reviews - Why do them? -

How do you review a game? In my personal opinion I would first look at what the game set out to achieve, not what YOU wanted it to achieve. That’s an important concept to grasp and one that many review sites have yet to get a hold of.

I don’t want to come across as someone who thinks they know how to review a game properly. Frankly I think that review sites are foolish! Why you may ask? Games are 100% undeniably subjective. You can look at the Call of Duty and BattleField fan-boy fights to see the point I’m trying to get across here. CoD and BF have had in-fighting since the games first released. I can’t tell you how hilarious, and sometimes infuriating, reading people’s comments about why the other is better has been for me over the years.

Personally, I’m a fan of both series. Call of Duty is amazing at smaller maps, smaller engagements and more twitchy, fast pace shooting. While Battlefield on the other hand has been more about the large-scale, vehicle supporting, larger teams game-play. Both are ultra-fun in their own right.

Which do you prefer? Think for a moment about which one you consider better…

Ok now answer me this, just because you believe a game is better, does that mean it is? No, of course not! It doesn’t matter what you think. What matters is that you’re having fun playing the game that you’d enjoy playing. Who cares if someone likes CoD more, that’s their flavor. Do you get on someone because they like chocolate over vanilla in regards to ice cream? I think not.. and if you do, you need some help.

As I stated before I love both series for what they do independently. They’re two different game styles. Just for fun, let us throw Halo into the fray for a moment. Halo has always been a more skill-based shooter. WHOA! YOU THINK COD AND BF REQUIRE NO SKILL!? No, in fact they all do. Halo, however, has always been more about accuracy than anything else. Sure there are the camping situations where someone has a shotgun and there is nothing you can do. Those can be aleviated after the first death though. Just don’t feed into your enemy’s ploy to get you do expose yourself!

This brings me to the point of my rambling (long as the road may be). Review sites are, and always have been, a very inaccurate tool to gauge how good a game is. Frankly, there have been games that I’ve absolutely LOVED that have gotten lower than “great” scores. The reason being they’re what I enjoy. It matters not the game, if you enjoy it, play it. Let others do the same! I’m always happy to see a gamer picking up a copy of the newest release of their favorite series. I feel happy because I know that they’re going to enjoy it, regardless of what everyone else thinks.

Use your minds people. Game, and let game and remember, that’s all they are, games. Go argue about politics! :-P

Wardrox's Collection of Thoughts: Reviews are funny

wardrox:

[IGN] do not alter game scores even if there is a patch that fixes issues.

Which is from the IGN Ratings and Review Guide.

IGN will post either a review update or an entirely different console review once the Day 1 patch goes live for Xbox 360 and PS3

Which is from the IGN BF3…

Wardrox speaks truth. However, you can’t spell ignorant without IGN so it’s a given.
